Photograph portrait of Reverend Aloysius Leitner. According to extensive notes on verso, this is the only known photograph of this priest, a professor at Mt. St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, MD, later stationed at St. Peter's Church, Columbia, PA from 1853-1860. Went to Ecclesiastical Province of St. Louis. In 1899, Dr. Leitner was Chaplain at La Salle Institute in Chicago. An account of him is contained in articles prepared by F. X. Reuss for the American Catholic Historical Society Records, Vol. IV, including "St. Peter's Church Columbia, PA". Printed below photograph: "T. & W. Cummings, Lancaster, Pa." Title taken from verso.
