At the top of the engraving is a triptych showing the Crucifixion flanked by the Nativity and the Ascension. Below is a portrait image of Pius IX flanked by Jesus, Mary, Martin Spalding and John McCloskey. Below that are portraits of the heirarchy of the United States at the time the etching was made but also including past members John Carroll, Francis Kenrick, John Hughes, John England, Benedict Flaget and John Fitzpatrick. Printed at bottom of engraving: "Western B. N. & Engraving Co. Chicago."; "Published by Kellogg & Stoner, 29 Beekman St. New York & 154 Clark St. Chicago." Dated 1866.
