The Seminarians Work in The Cemeteries
As deaths mounted in Philadelphia, the burial of the dead became a severe problem. On October 8, Rev. Henry Drumgoole, Rector of St. Charles Seminary, asked for volunteers to help bury the dead at Holy Cross Cemetery.
For the next month over 200 seminarians would work at cemeteries around the archdiocese digging graves, burying the dead, registering graves, doing clerical work, and serving as chauffeurs and messengers.
