Consecration of the Cathedral of Ss. Peter & Paul June 30, 1890
During the decade of the 1890’s, two momentous events occurred in the history of the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul.
In 1890, 44 years after construction was begun, the debt on the Cathedral was paid off and the Cathedral was consecrated.
The translation reads:
The Most Reverend Patrick John, by the grace of God and the favor of the Apostolic See, Archbishop of Philadelphia grants and concedes to all the faithful here present on this day an Indulgence of one year and to those visiting this Cathedral Church on the anniversary of this consecration, an indulgence of forty days in the usual form of the church. Pray therefore to God for the welfare of the Most Holy Father Leo XIII by Divine Providence Pope, for His Grace, the Most Reverend Archbishop and for our holy mother the church
