Electric Light in the Cathedral

For years, a major complaint regarding the Cathedral was that the interior beauty could not be appreciated due to inadequate lighting, especially during evening services. In August, 1896, a plan was announced to use electricity, first introduced in Philadelphia in the late 1880’s, to light the interior of the Cathedral.
