The Persecution of the Catholic Church in Mexico

Beginning with the constitution of 1917, the Mexican government began suppressing and persecuting the Catholic Church as it tried to reduce the influence of the Church in Mexico. The constitution nationalized churches, banned religious processions, and forbade clergy from voting, being involved in education, and wearing cassocks in public.
